The textbooks and teaching resources at CMCS have been carefully chosen so as to give a well-rounded education to all CMCS students. Heritage Studies, Reading, Science, and Bible materials are purchased from Christian School publishers. Secular texts may be used in such subjects as Handwriting, Math, English, and Computer. Parents are welcome to join the curriculum committee. Contact Mindy Heinsch if interested.
Stanford Achievement Tests are given to all students in April of each year. The summarized results of these tests come back to the school in late May or June and will be sent home with the child’s final report card. Please make every attempt to avoid vacations during this time of year. It is mandatory for your child to complete these tests. We cannot stress enough the importance of your child being well-rested and fed a nutritious breakfast especially during this week.
In Joshua 1:8 we are shown the priority God places on meditating upon His Word. "You shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have success." Students in K4 – 8 are regularly assigned an NIV Scripture memory passage that corresponds to their Bible course work. Parents are asked to work with their children on memory passages which are included as part of the students grade and may be recited in chapel on Wednesday.

Homework
Assignments must be completed on time for full credit. All students (with the exception of kindergarten and first grade) are required to use a homework assignment notebook and have a parent's signature verifying that homework is done every day. CMCS will provide one book per student per year. If a second one is needed there will be a $3.00 charge.
Homework is given to the students on a weekly and daily basis. For the most part you can expect your child to have up to, but not exceeding:
Kindergarten and 1st Grade – 10 minutes/day
2nd Grade – 20 minutes/day
3rd Grade – 30 minutes/day
4th Grade – 40 minutes/day
5th Grade – 50 minutes/day
6th Grade – 60 minutes/day
7th Grade – 70 minutes/day
8th Grade – 80 minutes/day
Please keep in mind that children work at different paces and some may not have as much homework while others have more. If your child spends considerably more time than expected on homework, please talk with the teacher. If you need homework assignments for your child who is absent you will be able to pick these up in the office at or after 3:00 p.m. on the day of the absence.
Wednesday evenings are regarded as a church night. The teachers will limit the homework assigned on Wednesday evenings. There may however be limited times when an assignment will need to be completed on a Wednesday evening, but these times will be rare and can usually be avoided if the child uses their time in class during the day wisely or studying ahead of time so that Wednesday evenings can be reserved for church night.
If an assignment is not completed on time, there will be a reduction in the credit given and the child may need to stay in from recess until the assignment is completed. If there are legitimate circumstances which prohibit the completion of homework, the parent should write a note of explanation. The third day of an incomplete homework assignment within a quarter will result in a lunchtime detention. After two lunch hour detentions have been served for incomplete homework, parents and student will be asked to come and meet with the teacher and administrator and a plan will be established to address the problem. |
